Portland’s Living Room

More photos of bridge in Portland later, now it’s time to visit the town itself. This is Pioneer Courthouse Square, also known as Portland’s Living Room.

Pioneer Courthouse Square is a public square in the heart of Portland and is named after the Pioneer Courthouse from 1875, located to the east of the square. The square opened in 1984, before that it had been the site of a hotel and a two-storey car park. The first plan to turn the block into a public square were made in the 1970s. It is a lively square, used for various events, including some summer festivals, as you can see in the picture as well.

The buildings in the background are, from left to right, Jackson Tower, completed in 1912 and originally built for the Oregon Journal, Fox Tower, 113-metre tall skyscraper, completed in 2000 and the Park Avenue West Tower, completed in 2016 with a height of 153 metres (including the antenna). It is the fourth-tallest tower in Portland.
