Photographer's Note

This is the final photo from the San Anselmo Community Parade and Fair that I've shared this week. The event really is for the children of this small community and they were out in abundance. With this photo and two workshops I'll give you a sense of the event for these children.

I noticed a crowd gathering at the small park in front of City Hall. The dozens of children perched atop their parent's shoulders told me something worth watching was happening in the midst of the crowd. I slipped around to the side to discover a young woman with a collection of birds, parrots, cockatoos performing as she shared her humorous banter. The audience, especially the children were mesmerized by these well trained birds. I found myself much more interested in the faces of the children such as this trio. If you ever have a doubt about believing in magic, you owe it to yourself to spend some time with children. It is remarkable to remember that every one of us at one time had our eyes wide open to the splendor of this world, the sights, sounds and smells. Just look at the expression on these children and perhaps you'll recall your own excitement at meeting each day. That is magic, for certain!

The first workshop shows another boy atop his father's shoulder eating cotton candy, a confection without nutritional value but much loved for the high sugar content and sticky fingers it is bound to produce.

The second workshop shows the small train that traveled from one end of the Fair to the other, always loaded with parents and children. The girl at the back noticed me holding my camera and was intent on giving me this lovely smile.
