Photographer's Note

Those who have read my travelogue understand why I upload this amount of Air Traffic Control and Airport related photos. This is not a special interest of mine, nor am I a frequent flyer. I usually travel by car and don't get that close to airports, except when I work. However this was one of the the primary purposes of my journey to the United States...

So one final standard Air Traffic Control Tower, cut out by the architecture of the late 90s. This one is located at San Diego International Airport (SAN) also named The Lindbergh Field, as it was from this city Charles A. Lindbergh took off and - via St. Louis and New York - made his solo flight to Paris, France. Today it is the busiest single runway commercial airport in the United States.

When going there I made a wrong turn and almost ended up in the neighboring US Marines' training camp! I was friendly escorted by a heavily armed guard to make a U-turn and leave the premises. This was the only time I experienced difficultes entering the secluded areas of Air Traffic Control... ;o)
