Photographer's Note

The "Alpine Loop" area east of Provo, Utah is a place frequented by locals who wish to see autumn ushered in by the subtle and bold change of foliage, making the annual pilgrimage by car, bike and foot. This morning looking for some patent aspen yellows, which haven't transition yet from summer, I notices the metamorphosis of the ferns. In a small are these ferns ranged from summer green through bright gold and orange to the final brown.

I chose to represent this a little differently, in the vast contrast range of the subject. This is a combination of 5 photographs, based on f9.0 and various shutter speeds to cover a 5 f-stop range. There was no breeze, and the scene was as it was in freeze frame mode.

I used my trusty 50mm prime, and set the aperture to what is considered to be the "high end" best for resolution and acutance. A UV filter was in place, although I'm not sure of the camera's sensitivity to UV, at an 8,000 ft. elevation there was plenty available!
