Photographer's Note

This is a document of my first 'Outbackexperience'.
We were on the way from Mt. Ebenizer to Ayers Rock and I was happy to sit in one of the famous Landcruiser 4WD Camper vehicles. At this stage you can see the vehicle stuck in a soft sand area next to a waterhole which looked like a air reflection from a distance and only came true short before we dropped into it. I didn't have any experience in 4WDing and so I walked up the next dune in order to look out for someone to help. Of course no one was around upt to the horizon. so I grabbed a spade and began digging out the wheels. After one hour I looked as red as an indian - thnaks to sweat and red sand. The vehicle immediatelly started to dig deeper into the sand and didn't move at all in any direction.
I was pretty desperate already, when I finally checked the front wheel locks and noticed that the gearbox was not in the right position too.;-))

With locked wheels and in the 4WD high positon the vehicle easly jumped out of the hole I digged out and it was not a problem at all to drive in the soft sand back to the next road.

This shortcut took about 2 hours of sweat and gave me a experience I will never forget. A very good advice which is very usefull anywhere in Australia's outback is: stay on the road - forget thinking about any shortcut if you don't know exactly where you are.
