Photographer's Note

While driving from Perth to Victoria via the South Coast, we saw the wind farm in the near distance near Millicent in South Australia, and, never having seen one up close before, decided to go take a look.

There must have been over a hundred of these generators in an area covering, maybe, 15 kilometres, and they are unbelievably huge. The body of the generator (at the top of the pole), is about the size of a city bus! I chose this one of all the photos I took because it best demonstrates the size, not easy to do.

As the blades go round, really quite slowly (about 30rpm), they make the most fantastic sound. They roar. It sounds like a jet passing when you're standing right under it, a bit scarey really.

Many countries in the world have such wind-farms and, although lots of people are willing to either praise the renewable power option or to bemoan the (highly debatable) eyesore they represent, very few people actually go to take a closer look. Awesome!
