Photographer's Note

This is the view from the carpark at the top of Mt Dale in the Darling Ranges in Western Australia.

MT Dale is only a 45 minute drive east from the Perth city centre. It's not really a mountain, but from this hill you have a marvelous and breathtaking view of the surrounding forest.

This carpark is an ideal spot for an evening with the telescopes. We usually arrive here at or just before sunset (when this shot was taken), set up the 'scopes, have dinner and enjoy a good view of the night sky with very little interference from the city lights.

In summer, the gum forest in the valley gives of so much eucalyptus mist in the late afternoon that the view is quite obscured.

This is the first photo I have taken using colour film for many years. I had forgotten how much less convenient it is when you have to wait for processing before you know if you have reasonable results or not. On this occasion I was using ASA800 film (for astro-photography) which is why the picture is so grainy.
