Photographer's Note

There’s a lot of things I could tell you about this photo. On the face of it this is a picture of a construction site that I live across the road from. What I was trying to capture was the amazing mist rising off the hillside, I wasn’t expecting the sky to be so blown out. But on reflection I like the effect, it gives the image lots of space.

I’ve had this pinned up on the wall at home for ages, recently one of my friends, a fellow photographer asked if he could have a copy because in the foreground is a mural paying tribute to an artist called Hate (underneath the streetlight with the seabird sitting on top, see the one with the heart?)

The construction is the long process of building Waitangi Park, a public park for us lucky folk who live in the centre of Wellington.

The two major buildings are Te Papa (the national museum of New Zealand) on the left and the Herd Street Post & Telegraph Building (which is being converted into posh apartments) on the right. Behind these is the CBD with it’s tallish buildings.
