Photographer's Note

after an hour or so at the salar my eyes STARTED (that's a disclaimer for the sky still being over-polarized) to adjust; so did the sensor and my polarizer. despite the exaggeration in the sky, i find the color set here matching my first impression of the place very well.

i wish we had more time at the lake to wait for better (than mid-day) light; alas - not this time. we had another 5 hours or so on a gravel (that's a compliment) mountain road to reach the next town before the sun-down.

the higland gravel roads can be very dangerous at night, occassional rusty car carcasses littering the slopes serving as gruesome reminders to lighten up on the gas pedal. on top of that the locals had informed us that the road frequently would become undrivable due to snowfall/rain/mudslides and out-of-control rain-water rivers. we were lucky that day though. the rivers we had to cross were rather tame and the promised 'bolivian winter' snow did not come. we saw it falling on far slopes though.

another view of the same salt lake was posted earlier today by Kristine.
