‘Suriplaza - Simply red’
First I want to point out that I haven't applied any saturation at these three pictures.
The photos were neither taken at sunrise or sunset.
There are several places on earth where the soil is red. For instance, Lisa has shown wonderful pictures of the red center of Australia. Yet it has something unique when the soil and the rocks are red and this under a beautiful blue sky.
The area of Suriplaza in the northeast of Chile is quite big but the part with the red rocks rather limited. Other parts have white, grey or black rocks and mountain slopes.
Suriplaza is located around 4.500 meters above sea level.

Bonjour, cher Paul,
Je vous crois sur parole quant aux couleurs du paysage. Un état sauvage impressionnant. Seule cette touffe d'herbe vient créer un semblant de vie.
Superbe présentation.
Amitiés.

Hello Paul, There is quite a lot of places with the red soil like here . Red Center in Australia is one, and big parts of Utah and Arizona. Here at such high altitude there is almost no vegetation and it looks more like we can imagine Mars - the Red Planet. Amazing landscape.

Hello Paul,
This is truly an amazing area, and the three photos are all very interesting. You must have had a tough choice to select the "official" upload. In this one you could use the strange tuft as good foreground. Personally I am fond of the one with the minibus and your three tiny co-passengers climbing the hill. In every case the contrasts of blue sky and red/pink/brown ground are fantastic.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi Paul!
The colors of that place are so attractive!
This is a very beautiful picture, in spite of its simplicity!
Colors, sharpness, exposure, chosen pov and minimalist composition are all excellent! I really like it!
Again, it makes me want to visit that place so badly!
TFS - congrats,
Cheers,

Amazing red soil and rocks, Paul, no need to enhance saturation and the tones are impressive.
Blue sky in fine contrast, and I see patches of snow leftovers.
Red soil like this is an evidence of iron or copper residue, and the north part of Chile is known for its mining-industry.
Have a nice Sunday,
Ike

Hello Paul.
Thanks for the interesting note. I read it twice expecting to see an explanation of the dead little beastie in the foreground! Silly me. My eyes are failing me. I see Gert has called it a "strange tuft" - that will do.
Anyway, it's a really good high altitude landscape photo with a superb range of red tones below a rich blue sky. It looks hot, perhaps as a result of all that redness, but the few specks of snow suggest it must be quite cold at that height.
Regards,
Andrew

Hello Paul,
First, let me say how relieved I was when I opened your photograph! In the thumbnail, I thought there was a dead sheep in the corner! Although not a dead sheep, it does make an excellent f/g focus, strongly placed and creating a good sense of depth to the rising hills.
It's a stunning area for visual excellence!
The light allows the subtle changes in colour to reveal gullies and bumps in this quite amazingly, coloured land!
Thank you for sharing this,
Bev :-)

Hello Paul,
Very strong composition with the island of grass in the foreground. The red sand gives a good counterpoint to the clear blue sky.

Dag Paul,

Hi Paul,
Good journey to the arid land that look like Mars surface, good discovery and good frame to show an unique local species too, beautiful WS photos, thanks for sharing the wonderful world.
In my country there is an area name Tanah Merah, Lumut (Red soil / Red land), but the land is fertility and cover up by greenery wild plants.

Hi Paul
The vivid colour is bang on and the red is real. A wonderful depiction of a strange sight - otherworldly landscape when you see it in person i am sure. The composition works best here where that bit of fg detail is so vital for the eye to hook on leading through the vast land formation blessed by subtle light, rich and bold in tremendous depth and that's the beauty of nature. I love smoothness of the surface best backed by delicious contrast to blue sky. Simply breath-taking, Congrats
Best wishes

Dag Paul,
Heel mooi landschap met die rode bergen en de plukjes sneuuw onder de blauwe lucht. De vegetatie in de voorgrond lijkt wel op een bergje pelsdieren,

Hi Paul
at first glance from the gallery page i thought the object in the lower fg was a rattlesnake.
boy, I wouldn't want to find myself lost in this terrain for a long time. Looks quite barren and inhospitable.
that comes through very well in your photo. cool shot from Chile, glad you posted it. and theres nothing wrong with the colours either
cheers

Hello Paul.
Fantastic three images, spectacular scenery, with these various shades of red on the land, the mountains have ideals nuances, which also gives a nice texture. The contrast with the deep blue sky is sensational.
Excellent composition and sharpness.
Wonderful bright and colorful.
Very well done. I like it.
Have a nice day.
Best regards.

Bonsoir Paul,
Je dirais, que la nature est belle! Superbe ce sable rose sur fond de ciel bleu. La plante au premier plan apporte un cachet supplémentaire ŕ l'image. Excellents les autres cadrages dans le WS.
Merci pour le partage.

Hello Paul,
Wonderful warm cold color contrasts between the arid red earth and the blue sky. Good sharpness and the spiky clump of fg grass (probably to protect it from foraging animals) looks like a porcupine. The streaks of snow add to the graphism. Tfs!

Hi Paul!
This is an amazing landscape, almost no vegetation and the wonderful tonalities of this earth. I like the foreground also, with this strange vegetation, I really thought it was a dead animal.

Hello Paul
Those colors are truely amazing. Your pov and cropping I find really smart. The sky is without clouds, but that is not surprising, considering the location.
I'm looking at this scene with a certain interest, as I soon will be making a journey in Southamerica; One of the locations will be the Atacama Desert.
Cheers and have a fine weekend

Ciao dear Paul
You could probably guess that the rich red tones drew my curiosity immediately. Even though we are in South America here (part of Gondwannna which was connected to Australia if you believe the stories), it seems almost Australian. I love the textures and rich tones. The tight framing, large foreground and deep blue sky make a stunning combination. The only sad thing is the little animal in the foreground, who has no doubt succumbed to the desert.
Warmest wishes and thanks for sharing

Hello Paul,
this place simply needs no postprocessing!
I love the emptyness of the desert, it is such a minimalistic place. The lonely bush on the right adds so much to that picture, a viewpoint!
Nice work, best regards, F.
