Photographer's Note

This was taken close to the Amazon tri-border between Peru, Colombia and Brazil. It is a small riverside settlement just inside Peru. We arrived here the previous night and stayed in our hammoks onboard the small boat we were travelling on. We had planned to arrive at the border by this point but hours were spent the previous evening and well into the night trying to find the drop off point for our fellow passangers. The passangers were five middle aged Colombiam men who the boat owner claimed were Mayors and the drop off point was a small inlet indicated by a nervous torch flash from the dark bank. It was all a little strange. In the morning we continued on towards the border shortly after taking this picture. It was a pretty nasty place to spend the night and we were happy to be moving on. Just after taking this shot, while I was still pondering the structural stability of the property and whether or not the owner had employed an Architect, the said owner opened a trap door in the floor and added to the already obvious sewage problem. At which point a number of dogs approaced the recent deposit, had a quick poke around and went on their merry way. Lovely.
