1 Picture, 3 Countries.... Photo

Photographers Note

In this picture there are three countries... The foreground left corner is in Thailand, the golden dome on the right is in Laos, and the Red roof in the background is the Paradise Casino, in Myanmar, the former Burma. The casino is there specially for Thai people, as gambling in not allowed in their country.

The rest of the picture is the mighty Mekong, strengthened by the monsoon rains....

The area is known as the Golden Triangle and used to be the main producer of opium and heroin in the planet. Since, many eradication programs, and replacement crops have been put in place, mostly on the Thai side.

EXIF time is wrong, it was 15.13 (03.13 pm)

Il y a trois pays sur cette photo... Le coin au premier plan est en Thaďlande, la coupole dorée est au Laos, et les toits rouges au fond ŕ gauche sont au Myanmar, l'ancienne Birmanie. Ce sont les toits du 'Paradise Casino' spécialement construit pour les Thaďlandais, chez qui les jeux d'argent sont interdits.

Le reste de l'image est occupé par le puissant Mékong, renforcé par la saison des pluies...

Cette région est connue sous le nom de 'Triangle d'or' et était le premier fournisseur d'opium et d'héroďne de la plančte. Depuis, des cultures de remplacement et divers programmes ont été mis en place, surtout du côté Thaďlandais.

PDV trčs intéressant incluant 3 pays...d'une pierre, 3 coups ;)
Il y avait une bonne luminosité ce jour lŕ, ce qui a donné un bon rendu des couleurs. la profondeur est appréciable et j'aime voir les montagnes qui progressivement s'estompent au lointain, la présence des nuages dans ce beau ciel.

a good photo Laurent a big photo,
three countries in one shot by a big river. not easy to get them in one shot, I like the details and the sharpness in this well taken composition, good trekearth job here Laurent, have a good weekend.

Salut Laurent,
A quelques dizaine de kilomčtres de chez moi, la Moselle, qui remonte dans un sens sud-Nord, arrive ŕ un endroit qui s'appelle les Trois Frontičre. L'endroit sépare les frontičres de l'Allemagne, du Luxembourg et de la France. J'ai tout de suite pensé ŕ ce lieu en te lisant.
Impressionnante eaux boueuses du fleuve qui ont du capter la pluie. C'est un décor de roman d'aventures qui tu nous présentes trčs agréablement.

C'est une région remarquable un peu sulfureuse aussi. Ta composition adroite nous fait découvrir un endroit bien décrit par l'image et ton texte. Belles couleurs autour de cet impressionnant fleuve. Un trčs bon et intéressant travail. Bravo.

Bonjour Laurent,

On ressent bien les courants sur cette photo, si on veut faire du canoë, faut mieux ętre dans le bon sens !!! Je suppose que la carte que l'on voit en bas ŕ gauche doit ętre l'explication graphique de ta note... Une belle et lumineuse photo pour ce panorama intéressant avec beaucoup de profondeur. This is highly interesting...didn't know of this place which serves as the border of 3 countries. The Mekong and its deep muddy waters makes an interesting subject and your note is very interesting. Speaking about casinos, same case in the Thailand Cambodia land border

the same muddy scenario here at the Golden Triangle.Excellent presentation of a place that i never seen before.The most important for me in this scene is the borders of three countries. Lucky that you visited three countries at once.

Nicely conceived image. I like how the colors of the flags and rail in the foreground link the foreground to the buildings deeper into image.
