The Mélusine tower, Vouvant.

One sight. Mčre river view, and old romanesque and gothic bridge. June 18th, 2006.
Other sight. Notre-Dame of Assumption church.

It is a keep, rest of the fortress of Lusignan, built at the 12th century.

_It is about year 1000 that Guillaume V on Poitiers, known as "Le Grand", (born towards 969, dead on January 31st, 1030 in the abbey of Maillezais which it had founded in 1010), Duc of Aquitaine, decides to make build on the hills surrounded by water, in the middle of the forest, a church, a monastery, and a castle at the 10th century, and to give the Théodolin abbot, builder of the Abbaye of Maillezais, lands where were built a monastery and the Notre-Dame of Assomption church.

_In 1190, the site is brought in dowry to old and famous family from Poitou, Lusignan which built there a second castle at the 12th century.
In the tradition of Poitou, it is the legendary Mélusine fairy which built the castle in one night.

_From the top of keep, one has a sight on the Mčre, the river which crosses the village and which a Romance bridge of the 13th 14th centuries, makes it possible to cross. It is composed of three arches, two are Romanesque, the third is in gothic arch.

Vouvant is a French commune, located in the department of the Vendée of the area of the Countries of the Loire, populated of 867 Vouvantais in 1999, distributed out of 21 km˛, that is to say 42 hab./km˛.

Vouvant is one of Plus Beaux Village de France, one of more beautiful village of France.

Bonjour Joël,

Un autre donjon mais tout aussi impressionnant que le précédent. Une belle image verticale, bien cadrée et aux contrastes forts, pour nous plonger dans ce passé qui devait ętre bien belliqueux.

Joel,
Great shot of this medieval tower. The vertical format was a good choice here emphasizing the height of the tower. Your POV is great with the inclusion of the bench in the foreground and using the tree to balance the shot. The lighting and colors are fine as is the photo's sharpness.

Un bon cliché de ce donjon imposant et digne d'intéręt. Je suppose que le petit escalier permet de monter jusqu'en haut et d'admirer le paysage environnant.

Hello Joel,
The thickness of the outer wall on the tower is amazing, they certainly made no sacrifice to strength, no sparing the stone work.
Nicely photographed, your POV suits perfectly, allowing the tower to dominate the frame.
The tree on the right adds a perfect foreground.

Trčs imposante, cette tour. Les photos en ws nous font découvrir les alentours.
La légende de Melusina existe également ici au Grand-Duché de Luxembourg.

Bonjour Joël,

Les arbres cadrent bien la tour. La prise de vue du bas vers le haut donne de la perspective ŕ la composition. elle permet aussi de distinguer les détails et les couleurs de la tour qui a perdu des morceaux au fil des ans. La luminosité donne un bon contraste aux couleurs. Bonne journée.

De nouveau une bien belle série de photos sur les lieux intéressants de ce petit village. Bon cadrage sur cette tour dont l'esthétique de l'architecture est bien ressortie par les couleurs de ce ciel et cette arbre. J'aime beaucoup l'exposition ŕ la lumičre qui crée un relief intéressant. J'aime bien la vue sur la Mčre, joli nom en passant, du haut de l'édifice. Merci Joël.

Trčs bonne composition verticale de présenter cette ancienne tour. J'ai comme l'arbre est recouvert de donner du contraste et de vie.

Vouvant devient la cible de mon interet. Avec la Notre Dame que tu avais postee avant ca fait un debut intriguant pour ce charmant coin du Pays de la Loire. Le donjon est bien original et m'inspire a voler des idees romantiques pour mon bricolage (je te ferais parvenir les images des constructions que je signe). A tel point que j'ai lu la note en francais. Pour mieux retenir. Si un jour on se croise, tu pourrais me poser des questions sur Vouvant...

Bonjour Joël.
Cette tour a beaucoup de caractčre et elle a dű subir beaucoup d'outrages si on s'en tient ŕ ce qu'on voit ŕ sa base. J'aime cette composition qui donne autant de place ŕ l'édifice qu'aux arbres qui l'entourent.
