Photographers Note

If you rub elbows with the locals, you will quickly notice how people from Gujarat prefer to drink their tea, using a saucer instead of a cup, so it cool off more quickly.

Another singular way to drink tea is in Kolkata, where it is serves in small clay cups that people throw on the streets when they're done.

*The white turban isn't washed out; it's only a lost of details when compressed in small resolution for TE.

Hello André,

Tu as su te placer de maničre ŕ rendre cette prise de vue presque spectaculaire malgré la banalité de la scčne.
Les couleurs semblent s'entrechoquer ici ! Ce bleu de l'arričre plan nous parait presque irréel tellement il accroche le regard. Pour ma part, il est si présent qu'il laisse presque le sujet au second plan du spectacle malgré ce regard qui transperce.

Hi Andre, what a classic portrait shot. He has such an expressive face, and he obliged you by providing the pivotal moment for you to snap the photo. The blue wall behind him contributes great mood and atmosphere to the image (as does the bright red blanket). Great work!

Salut André,

Voila une photo qui m a fait sourire quand je l ai apercu dans la galerie. Tu as saisi une action originale qui est soulignée/contrastée par le regard direct qui refuse l etrangeté que je pourrais voir a la scene.
Sympa le jeu des couleurs entre le bleu vif du fond et le rouge de la couverture.
Je trouve interessant la facon dont tu as cadré la main et le bras. C est souvent une de mes grandes interrogations lorsque je fais un portrait; je ne sais jamais comment cadrer (ou pas) les bras.

rien qu'ŕ voir l'imagette et la façon de boire son thé, je savais qu'on était au Gujarat
Moi qui pensais qu'en dehors de scalerman, mistral et moi, personne n'avait mis les pieds ŕ Bhuj, je vois que je me trompais grandement!
belle image d'un vieux Gujarati pur sucre parfaitement nette et bien cadrée!

Hi André,
You certainly have managed to find some great characters on your travels all these months and this man is a prime example, just look at his great features such as his curling moustache and beard and the wonderful wrinkles on his face, and even his fingers are a great feature. I really like that you have him taking a sip from his saucer and still looking at you at the same time, also love how he holds it (I wonder if you tried drinking your tea this way?). He fills the frame perfectly, and the contrasting colours of that special blue in the background and the red blanket and beads together with his white clothing and turban all add to the shot makeing for a striking portrait. On my screen the white does not look washed out, I can still see all the details in the cloth.

His stare leaves me cold...his wrinkles tell lots of stories...but this man doesn't look like a Gujrati...rather someone from the border area with our neighbouring country and given the white colour of his turban, he's, I think, Muslim. The blue wall BG certainly brings him out superbly

Hello Andre,

and I can tell you tea tastes ten times better when sipped from a saucer, its the best. Good balanced composition with a nice jolly feel to it.
