Photographers Note

Selva-Wolkenstein is another village in the Val Gardena - Gröden valley and has the same wood carving tradition as Urtijei (see here). To emphasize this tradition every year during Christmas period there is a competition in snow carving. In this years competition I liked this one in particular ... Unfortunately I do not remember the artist :-(

The mountain in the background is called Cir and is a characteristic peak of the Dolomites.

I like the statue and its juxtaposition to the mountains. Some technical, artistic suggestions:
The picture is too pixelated (see the edge of the statue and the granular mountains). You need to be taking higher resolution pics.
The roof of the house just behind the statue is unfortunate. If you had taken the shot from a lower angle you could have hidden it behind the statue.
And to complete the makeover, clone out that bit of roof upper left.

A fine photo for my theme - hope you don't mind adding it.
I like the mix of shadow and light - the mountain and blue sky good as background, but the rooftops a bit distracting. Thanks Guenther for sharing.

Very nice sculpture but I not sure it's nice to kiss this... I prefer a real woman...;)
I like also the mountain in the back and the white of the snow is well exposed. Bravo!

Sculpture éphémčre pleine de tendresse et d'amour, celle-ci ressort trčs bien par rapport ŕ la montagne située en arričre-plan.
J'admire toujours ces artistes qui sculptent sachant que leur oeuvre va fondre dčs les premiers rayons "chauds" du soleil.
Trčs bonne idée.
Bien vu et bien fait.

Jstewart č stato molto duro, ma io apprezzo la sinceritŕ e sono d'accordo con lui anche se a me le faccine brutte non sono mai piaciute. Effettivamente č eccessivo e disturba il pixellaggio (guarda che neologismo!); per il resto si puň rimediare come nel mio workshop. Perň queste sono labbra molto sensuali e Rockyboy ha torto! Quello che trovo ottimo č il colore della neve: ieri a Milano ha nevicato, ho fatto delle foto ma anche se ho sovraesposto il colore della neve non lo trovo naturale.

Accidenti coma sono severi i colleghi! Io non sono neppure ben sicuro di cosa sia esattamente la 'pixelation'... Del resto con pochi kb a disposizione non sempre l'immagine inviata rispetta l'originale.
A me invece diverte il contenuto, in attualissimo tema di carnevale, visto che sarebbe un ben gelido bacio, a anche di dimensioni pantagrueliche.
Mi piace l'idea e non mi disturbano i pixel... semmai mi stupisco un po' della prospettiva centrale in perfetto allineamento con il picco del Cir. Immagino che sia per la leggibilitŕ della scritta.

Hi Guenther,
nice humour shot, focus on the sculpture and light are great and I like too how you positioned the mountain behind. Good portrait framing that is very appropriate here, and yes there are pixelation problems, but strangely only in the upper part of the photo, to my eyes the lower part is fine.

A very amusing shot. The roof top is not really all that distracting, imho. The tonal range is very simular to the background mountain, & tends to 'bleed in' or 'camouflage', for the most part. Of more concern is the slight oversharpening noticeable along the top of the mouth & nw shoulder.

Hello Günther. I assume you understand German. When not, please tell me and I will repeat this note.
Schönes Motiv in dieser Aufnahme und ein großartiger Hintergrund. Schade daß die Qualität nicht sehr hoch ist(zu grosse Pixel) aber die Komposition, Farben und Licht sind ausgezeichnet. Ein zu kalter Kuß vielleicht aber Leidenschaft braucht auch manchmal Ruhe.
