Photographers Note
GAMERS, the "Character Entertainment Shop", is eight floors of pure Otaku heaven. Everything an Otaku could ever wish for is in this one building near Akihabara Station. From J-pop and idol products, manga comics and manga films ("anime"), 'pla-mo' (plastic models) and trading cards, all the way up to - ofcourse - videogames.
I took this image from over the stands. Wall to wall videogames were displayed. All of the latest releases, and some less mainstream games too. An example of which can be seen on the back of those boxes.
The man is looking up and down, left a right, over all of the games on display, looking for that one title to spend his hard earned Yen on. The latest rythm game? The latest RPG set in feudal Japan? Judging by where he is looking, I'd say no. The latest Hentai game? Perhaps... perhaps...

I rather like this one, Richard. You've managed to capture an "Otaku" in his lair, ;o) I like how you've set this ne up with miles of comics and then at the edge, this chap completely engrossed...
well seen,
Francis

Hi Richard,
I liked the atmosphere of these kind of shop. When I came to Japan, I thought that they were full of noisy teenagers. In fact, they're often empty and when there're people, it's an absolute calm.
You picture gives an idea of this situation. I like the composition, with all these video games, all these straight lines and, on the right, the round head of this - perhaps - otaku who is quietly doing his job, that means watching for the last new video games, for his collection.
Olivier.

I like the situation, Im not sure I like the photo. There are some issues with composition. You cut the guy on the right. He is your compositional anchor, what tells the story. He is off center, which is good, but he is cut on the left side of his body. The camera should have been moved over a bit to get all of him.
The other thing is the lighting conditions. I guess the lights were very harsh but there are blown out spots in several places.
Finally, there is a general lack of focus on everything.

Akihabara has many people who live in the shut space.
This is a very serious work.
But I like traveling in outside.
