Photographer’s Note

Today I drove up the Cape’s West Coast to capture images of the famous flowers that bloom here every year around this time and to appreciate these flowers that form a tapestry of colour only during the months Sept-Oct. It is actually an excuse to get out since I have been down with the flu for the past 4 days. In less than two hours I’m wandering about the Langebaan nature reserve on a glorious day. It’s the most popular flowerviewing spot so I am not surprised that I am soon joined by several tourists oohing and aahing at the colourful displays.

For MV.
These stunning flowers are found all along the west coast including Langebaan and up as far as Namaqualand where they are famously known as “Flowers of the Desert”.

“Langebaan, Cape West Coast: The popular town of Langebaan is just over 100 km from Cape Town on the West Coast off the R27 next to Langebaan Lagoon. The white Caribbean like beaches surrounding the crystal clear waters of the Langebaan Lagoon are one of the main attractions of Langebaan.
Langebaan is Characterised by dozens of small coastal villages, unspoilt beaches and rustic harbours lined with small fisherfolk cottages, the West Coast provides for an altogether slower-paced, but still dramatically spectacular, drive”.

For those of you going into Spring tomorrow, have a happy one!
