Rebrandtower and birds Photo

Photographers Note

View from rowingclub RIC over the Amstel and the modern complex around the highest tower in Amsterdam: the Rembrandt tower, which can be seen from everywhere around Amsterdam.
In the front every pole is occupied by a carmoran, a fishing bird, that was endangered in the 70'ies of the 20th century but is now becoming a real city bird, in the footsteps of the grey heron.

Een moeilijke foto, niet eenvoudig om er iets knallends van te maken in dit soort licht. Gebouw is imposant, heel mooi. De vogels op de bolders geven prima diepte in de compositie.

Nice building architecture ... I like the uniform colors of these buildings. The birds are a bonus in the image ... you've composed this well. It is amazing how nature heals if we look after them just like these birds. Well captured and composed. Well done!

Hallo Gerrit,

Nieuw Amsterdam met de morgen zon op de imposanten gebouwen, de samenstelling vind ik niet slecht, de aalsgolvers op de palen geeft gewoon iets, licht en kleur eveneens, een beetje moeilijke hemel door de korrel, misschien in vervolg eens proberen om deze te laten verdwijnen door een klein beetje PP.

Hoi Gerrit,

Ik vind het een hele mooie compositie die je hier hebt. Maar ik vind hem wel aan de erg zachte kant. Misschien was het een beetje heiig. Ik heb een workshop toegevoegd, niet omdat het een slechte foto is - don't get me wrong there - maar om een beetje meer detail in het gebouw te krijgen.

Wel lekker om een stukje Nederland te zien als je in het buiteland zit ;-). Bedankt!

It's good to see a bird occupying each pole; it makes the viewing more satisfying somehow. What appears to bet evening light is making the buildings glow.

I like the composition in this! The buildings are perfectly positioned, forming almost a pyramid, and the lighting shows them very well. The line of posts in the foreground, each with it's bird on top, provides a nice counterpoint, as well as adding a sense of layers or depth. Well done!

Olá Gerrit, smart composition and nice contrast of the poles with the sunny urban setting. That light effect on the water is a great extra and I love the sight of the carmorans observing the city.

I like the composition, it's a mixture of fluvial image with the posts and the herons, and of splendid contemporary architecture. The contrast has a great graphical effect.
The reflexes of the light shining on the water they give a very elegant touch to the photo, which offers us a few beautiful colors and a good lighting.

J'aime ce premier plan sombre avec les oiseaux qui met en valeur l'éclat lumineux sur l'eau et ensuite sur les immeubles.

An aspect of Amsterdam which I don't know! I more used to the traditional houses and canals. The light illuminates well the modern building and there is a nice shine in the water. The birds on the wooden pole look good too.

Hej Gerrit,
Uitstekende foto van dit stukje Amsterdam. Ik vind het leuk om te zien, want ik ken dit deel eigenlijk alleen maar vanaf de trein of metro vanaf het Amstelstation, niet vanaf deze kant (hoewel de Rembrandttoren zoals je al zegt overal vandaan te zien is). Het zonlicht is ook prachtig en geeft nog eens een mooie weerspiegeling in het water. Die vogels zijn een leuke bonus. Mooi werk!

This one is all about verticals with the poles on water and the birds on each of them and then the big towers behind. I like the way you managed light on this one specially the light that is iluminating and enhancing the big toweers of background.

Hi Gerrit - of all places, this reminds me of Dubai, of course the trees would have to be palm trees, the presence of the birds is great, I see a green tinge overall on my monitor.

Hello Gerrit,

I have seen your critiques now for a while, and decided I needed to visit some of your photos. I chose this older one of yours to critique, and I enjoy it a lot. I was unaware of what the Amsterdam skyline looked like, I have noted that most European cities are left in the 'original' state, and a newer modern CBD is built away from the old center, like Frankfurt and Paris. It is a wonderful spot. The water birds and posts in the FG add some interesting depth, and the sheen of light across the water is special also. I think the noise in the sky could be reduced with a bit of a smooth filter, but other than that I am pleased with the quality of this photograph. Thanks for posting and I am glad to have 'discovered' your gallery.
