Photographer's Note

Morning light was tantalizing me on trees and fields near Alnwick as I prepared to depart Northumberland. The rapeseed fields provide wonderful colouring for landscape photographers throughout Europe and North America. In Canada, the product is known as "Canola."

In Northumberland a group of farmers have launched their own brand of extra virgin oil, known as "Oleifera," a Latin word for oil bearing seeds. This new product is marketed as being free of all trans fats. Farmers experimented with fourteen kinds of seeds before selecting the Oleifera variety, which is made by cold pressing the seeds.
