Photographer’s Note
Just a smile from this young boy who after a few days of me beign in Mruak U, would wait by my guest house to walk into the morning market with me.
He didnt speak any English, just this smile!

Hello Elaine,
Fine colours and a nice smile. The thanaka proves that this could be nowhere but Burma.

Thats a lovely smile and rather curious makeup. I like the way you have nuanced the tonal quality of this composition and have made use of some brilliant hues. great portrait

Hello Elaine
When I look at this beautiful portrait, I just feel to go straight to Myanmar! Yes, I miss these wonderful people! I love the way the thanaka powder is applied creating a great design! At first, I thought he was wearing a hat but I understand it is a kind of basket, maybe for the rice.
Cheers
Marilyn
P.S My mother is now better, thanks and I hope it is the same for your dad ;)

Hi Elaine,
Amazing portrait introducing custom of Myanmar. He makes up thanaka of sunscreen in unique way.
This "thanaka" makes Japanes feel familiarity, because it has a pronunciation just like Japanese most popular family name.

It's a great shot, no doubt about it. For some reason I am thinking that it would be better if the background were all basket instead of having that strip along the top. Basically just nitpicking and using hindsight though.

Hello Elaine!
I'm amazed by your burmese gallery!
the thanaka is always so esthetic! His smile is priceless!
It's a full frame portrait, but it still is filled with specific burmese/south-east asian elements such has his face, the thanaka, hat, even clothes...
I really enjoy this one! And I wanna go there!
