Akha Trail - Lao minorities by Ricardo Lopes
(35577) 2007-10-17 - 2007-10-19
This trek was a 3 day cultural odyssay into the life and culture of Lao minorities. I learned about their life in the forest, in the fields and in the village. In gibbon country, this trip took me through Khmu settlements and along meandering streams before climbing the mountain slopes with vistas of the protected forests of the Nam Ha.
I met the Lahu people and spent 1 night in a Khmu village and other in an Akha village. (17 photos)

Back to Laos after 20 years by JM Hullot

First time I came to Laos was in 1989. At that time Laos was mostly closed to foreigners. A few tourists from Eastern Europe, a few westerners as well who were working in the country. I was lucky enough to get a visa through a Thai friend who knew a minister in the government. I was restricted to stay in Vientiane and Luang Prabang. When I came back to Luang Prabang last december, a few things had changed but I found the same wonderful people in an almost unspoiled country. (20 photos)

Siem Reap (Angkor), Luan Prabang & Ayutthaya. It was an experience I do not have words to describe. Angkor,Luang Prabang and Ayutthaya all carry legacies of India. Hindu kings built Angkor while Buddhist architecture, which has shaped Luang Prabang & Ayutthaya, have their roots in India. And the people in both places acknowledge that. It is on seeing these amazing works of art and culture in distant countries that I felt what a great country I belong to, and that I was proud to be an Indian. ... (full story) (71 photos)

Without reservation, I'd say that Laos is the most amazing country I've visited so far. The people were beautiful, the country was fantastic and it was the most laid back place I've ever been.
It's a place I can see myself living in ... ... (full story) (18 photos)

After travelling for two days with an overnight stop at Bangkok we reached the Thai/Laos border. From Ban Houei Sai, we travelled through parts of the north by bus, before setting off by boat down the Mekong to Luang Prabang. We flew from there to Vientiane and then on to Phonsovan in the Northeast and back to Vientiane. We then drove south to Pakse, followed by boat to the 4,000 islands. We spent time at Tad Lo before returning to Thailand and back home. ... (full story) (66 photos)
