Terrible terrible terrible barbaric behaviour of those terrorists. I am sure they know that they are not human beings and that they do not care. I think they are tired of living out in the desert and jealous of the West. It simply is a matter of greed.

Hello Ann, This is really interesting. In South Africa, at the Permo-Triassic boundary, we have a sudden change upwards in the sedimentary strata from grey and greenish mudstone to "red" shale with abundant fossils of the dicynodont Lystrosaurus. I asked two of our most experienced palaeontologists about the high preservation potential in red beds, which testify to arid oxidising conditions, when fossilisation requires anaerobic conditions - organic remains should just decay back to dust under oxidising conditions - and the answer was that they do not know. Did you perhaps encounter an explanation for the abundance of plant fossils in these red beds? Thank you for a very interesting image. Best wishes. Neels PS: Why Lystrosaurus was the only dicynodont to survive the greatest mass extinction in the history of life on Earth, and one of the very few of all land animals, remains to be explained.

Hello Eugene, What a site! Really unusual and very striking. I wonder what the rock formations are - the softer one below, sandstone or limestone, and the harder capping? The buildings form beautiful contrast with the natural rock formations and the bus near the centre is a striking focal point. Very well done indeed. Neels

Incredible how the houses fit in with the environment. And that ridge-and-valley topography? Faulting? Probably not as there is no displacement visible. Maybe jointing then. A phenomenon to ponder. But what a beautiful picture.

Hello Silvio, It does look like a fairytale setting. Very well captured against the light, giving it the calm atmosphere that you wanted to convey. Well done my friend. Neels

Hello Rosemary, Good choice of B&W which enhances the wealth of detail on the building. Both the excellent image with good human interest and the note are very interesting. Must be a wonderful building to visit for all the historical artefacts trapped there. Very well displayed here. The large version is a particularly pleasant view. Best wishes for a good week. Neels
