For a minute I thought I was looking at the harbor in Rhodes. Then I read your note to find that there is another and just as beautiful an ancient port as that in Rhodes. Thanks for sharing the photo, and for the informative note. Bayazid II, son of "Mehmet the Conqueror" was not terribly bright. In 1503 Leonardo da Vinci wrote to him, asking for a job as a military engineer. He offered to build a bridge over the golden horn (241 meters across). It would have been the most beautiful bridge ever conceived. The Sultan and his own military engineers dismissed the idea. The bridge was built 500 years later in Ĺs, Norway.
