I guess it is near this place there is another giant volcano, not vesuvius. a beautiful view, the clouds added a special mood to the moment and I liked the view of the seashore. I knew only northern italy, I want do a trip to the Southern italy and islands some day.

take care

Hi Jorge

The only other volcano apart from Vesuvius is the Phlegraean Fields west of Naples. (Italian: Campi Flegrei) It is an ever present threat to Naples. Last erupted in October 1538 AD (Minor Volcanic Explosive Index VE1-3). But around 39,000 years ago there was a massive VEI -7 eruption, the highest on the scale. Ash deposits from this explosion were found in core samples drilled in Greenland. It probably caused the extinction of the Neanderthal. Ash covered large parts of Europe and the Mediterranean.
