Default "Burning" ??

in response to Bob's question:
"Have you considered doing a bit of 'burning' and bring Mt. Fuji to life?"
What do you mean by "burning"? I tried a number of things in PhotoShop to bring out the detail, but couldn't find anything that didn't alter the sky too. I also tried selecting just Mt. Fuji, and brightening it up, but that made it look unrealistic. The only thing I've done so far is unsharp mask of about 0.3.

Default "Burning"

Falling back on an old 'wet darkroom' term. I remember using a piece of paper with a hole cut into it, holding it between the enlarger and paper, moving it around, and allowing more light to fall on the 'too dark' areas of a shot.

Photo Shop Elements (maybe PS as well) has a 'burning tool'.

Someone with more editing skills needs to step in now. I suspect that if you separated the sky and mountain into layers and used a bit of 'Fill Flash'....
