Good cldphoto 2006-05-20 6:48

Reminds me of a good many scenes left over from the 1990-91 invasion I saw during my year in Kuwait.

I like the composition here, good use of leading lines. The file uploaded looks like it could use some sharpening.

This building has in fact been abandoned since the Iraqis left back in 1991. Further damage has been done by squatters and vandals however. It's a shame as it's a nice building which could be restored and put to a variety of new uses but sadly the location (in a scruffy area containing car mechanic shops and other light industry) has a bearing on this. In fact, I used this picture along with several others in a magazine article I wrote on the plight of the historic buildings of Kuwait, most of which are being swept away in favour or new, more profitable developments. It's sad that economics always take precedence - no account is taken of the cultural value and once such things are lost, they cannot be replaced and it is future generations that ultimately lose out.

I briefly tried sharpening this image but was not happy with the results.
