Great holmertz 2008-07-08 9:07

Hello Steve,
A quite lovely portrait. The light falls very smoothly from the window and the wooden wall is a well chosen background. I would have liked to see the whole spindle (is that what it's called?) in her right hand. Although the woman's face is the most important subject, the spindle is an essential part of the portrait.
Best wishes,

Default To holmertz: spindle?

Hi Gert, thanks for your comment. Unfortunately I don't know much about spinning, but I think you could be right about it being called a spindle. I considered a number of different crops on this one to make her less central but with all of them I lost a part of the image I wanted to retain, or she ended up, inexplicably in a strange position, so didn't crop it. I think you are right, when I took it I should have included all of the spindle and also made her less central. Cheers, Steve
