Great batalay 2013-03-05 5:04

Hello Sue,

This is a beautifully composed photo, although somewhat disturbing with that stylized pistol painted on the wall — especially in light of the recent film, Argo. The two women walking offers powerful testimony to the transformation of Iran. In the late 70s I had several university students from Iran who used to criticize the Shah's Iran. A few years later they were all saying, "Out of the pan into the fire!"

Warm regards,

Bulent

Hi Bulent.

I'm happy with the composition of this photo - I did spend some time waiting for the right people to come along. I'm not so happy with quality as it was taken in over bright sunshine, but can't really do anything about that.

I was in Iran in 2005 and found it to be a fascinating but often contradictory place. The people in general were amazingly friendly and welcome and a lot of them, but not all were unhappy with the way things had turned out.

Coming from Central Asia, I found it to be amazingly modern and had a great infrastructure. Women were working in all sorts of occupations, but with obvious restrictions.

Best wishes

Sue
