Great saxo042 2013-05-02 11:09

Hi Russ,
A beautiful and very interesting picture! A very sharp and detailed picture of this caterpillar and a very beautiful background with the blurred colours of all the flowers. How big is this larva?
Kind regards

Smile To saxo042: 4-to-5 cm; just under 2 inches

They grow quite quickly in this stage, over about two weeks, hatching from eggs the size of poppy seeds to the size shown here, about 4 to 5 cm. They molt 3 or 4 times in these two weeks. With the last molt, they form a chrysalis and hang in it for about two weeks.

We will watch for the chrysalis from this larva; if possible, we will photograph its emergence and share it here!

All my best,

Austin, Texas
