Photographer's Note
Grand Popo, Benin... The place where it rains even though it's not raining - just dew falling off the trees because of the extreme humidity. Chickens are bright pink, people are curious, cemetaries are big and gaudy and the beach goes on endlessly. Taken at a Voodoo ceremony somewhere in the forest.
...this was one of the less scary parts. ...and I gotta say, it ain't pretty. No voodoo dolls here, just almost dead kittens, baby crocodiles, homemade african whisky, lots of people who just aren't totally "right" and alot of drums.
...also see the workshop for the shot view I had wehn I turned around ...there was alot of variety there.

The look in this boy's eyes John! A bit scary indeed. That's a cool multiple portrait though. The leaves provide a good counter-point. Unfortunately, focus seem to be on them (maybe on purpose?) and not on this boy's eyes which is a pity IMHO.
Take care,
Philippe

Hi John,
I agree with the previous comment, though - on the other hand - I quite like the leaves really sticking out of the scene. Strangest thing is the contrasting expressions of the two main faces in the picture, with the guy on the left finding the whole situation rather amusing.

You certainly do find yourself in some interesting places, John. I'm surprised they welcome outsiders to such an event. The boy in front looks suitably wide-eyed for a voodoo ceremony, and there's the mystery of why he's showing you those plants. It's too bad the background is so bright, but you minimized the amount showing and that's all you can really do. Still a great shot. Regards, Ken.
