Photographer's Note

Not much of a sunset even with increased saturation. It was 44c and a weak sandstorm was in the area, with lots of haze. This is the 2nd largest pyramid. The enigmatic Sphinx can be seen bottom left. The gates close at 3 pm. Taken from the roof of a shop beside KFC / Pizza Hut.

Hello Chris,
Cairo and its surroundings are unfortunately known for their polluted air and the resultant haze. It does not really bother me here and in fact it brings an ethereal quality to the composition that is not unpleasant. You have framed the scene well creating an interesting juxtaposition between the pyramid and the disc of the setting sun.

Hello Chris,
Haze and dust do wonders to colours and light. The not so good conditions have given you a superb atmosphere with lovely yellowish and pink tones. There are not many tourists seen here, but I suppose they are relatively scarce these days.
(I would place the Sphinx bottom left) ;-)

Bonjour Chris,

La distance entre le Sphinx et la Pyramide donne de la profondeur ŕ l'image. La prise de vue permet de voir certains détails du Sphinx et de la Pyramide. Le timide coucher de soleil fait ressortir les teintes brunes des couleurs. Bonne journée.

Im look at the date taken this, Chris and must say we had this dust and heat flown to our region from the Egyptian desert on the night between the 15th and yesterday - today it had receded, thanks god, normal temp's. here.
Inspite this, the Sphinx and giant Pyramid looks imposing and with good scale to appreciate the view.
A place I do not think I will be able to see for real.

Hi Chris,
may be the light was not optimal but the final effect here is stunning! Most tourists -including myself- are there in a very short moment to take a snap or two, you had the opportunity to be there later. It must have been annoying that the gate was closed so early but you have found even a better POV!
I like very much the perfect triangular shape of the pyramid. Plus you got sphinx too and the sun as well!

A wonderful image, with the Pyramid of Khafre, silhouetted against the sky pink tints, with the light of sunset, still can see the sun a little before its setting, the sphinx in front adds another nice complement to the image.

Hi Chris, what an interesting picture. An unmistakeable Egyptian pyramid with the Sphinx in front of it; this gives us a great idea of the scale of the construction.
Excellent point of view.
I even like the weak sun trying to break through.

we got so familiar with this sky and light this year, it looks dull and affects mood and housework but offers some interesting photo opportunities at sunset. You made the most of the phenomenon, the location and your vantage point in this picture. You managed to make the recent structures look neat, the landscape and the ancient monuments are awesome.
