An interesting tile mosaic along the Alexandria Harbour waterfront. See if you can spot the hippopotamus! 'Taweret' is the ancient Egyptian Goddess of childbirth and fertility. Hint, she can be seen standing upright in the central group of 6 figures.

This intriguing artwork looks a little like an old tv test pattern but looking closer you can spot pyramids, Ra, Anubis and many other facets of ancient Egypt.

Hello Chris,
I wondered if this magnificent tiles placed on the floor or on a wall?
Seems to me that it is strait up post on a wall.
Anyway, the typical Egyptian style painting is a masterpiece beautifully made. There is every color that exist on earth and nature, an attractive pattern with symmetry and themes.
Bravo for that beauty.

Hi Chris
That's a very cool work of art and a wonderful way to express some Egyptian culture. The colors are vibrant but the designs seem true to ancient Egyptian art. It looks almost art deco on its design, which is apt as since at deco did indeed seem influenced by egyptology.

I may also confess that I cannot find the hippo. Is a hippo free zone as far as I can tell :)

I also had big plans to visit Alexandria in the past. But today I can't visit Egypt, unfortunately. Good contribution to the artwork theme, well done, excellent picturesque mosaic composition. I don't remember similar colors in Luxor, for example.

A perfect example of a modern work of art referring to the ancient history.
I visited the modern Bibliotheca Alexandrina, completed in 2002, and I was very impressed. Apparently today there is more moderns to see there.
Fantastic colourful.
I'm afraid that the hippopotamus is hiding in the Nile ... I can't find it.

Hello Chris,

This is a most interesting piece, modern and ancient at the same time! I love how the pyramid shapes are integral to the pattern, yet not dominating.
It becomes a curious, optical illusion as you look at it! The bottom seems shorter than the top!

There have been some excellent historical programmes about Egypt, recently. I think some interesting discoveries were made quite close to Alexandria!

Did you find it dangerous, travelling in Egypt at this time?

Hello Chris, So now you are in Alexandria :). Intersting mosaic from very fine tiles. I can see octopus but I haven't found hippopotamus :(. Or maybe on the left on the second 'floor"? Anyway, interesting and beautiful modern artwork with ancient theme.
