Photographer's Note

After returning from the Valley of the Kings or Karnak, forget which, I got quite a fright when I switched on the light and saw this strange human figure reclining on my bed. At first, I thought I was in the wrong room and was about to apologise profusely, was it an intruder, terrorist or vengeful Mummy intent on its curse? Then I looked again and noticed my clock on the desk, and the 3 fresh towels stuffed into where the head and feet should be! And they were my clothes too. The maid had a sense of humor. She must have grabbed them from the chair they were draped over. Not sure if she expected to be tipped or not? Usually only Americans tip. Australians only tip when the service has been exceptional, which is as it should be.

Hi Chris,I have seen so many strange things done with hand towels during my travels, but never such a thing, and it really is a very artistic work. The Egyptians are very good, I remember that in Hurghada I found a big cake in the room because it was my birthday. Obviously the purpose is to have a tip, but it is often a pleasure. funny adornment using the towels, creativity. I remember the special ones I found in namibia, but they were in shapes of animals. nice view and souvenir.
in brazil we usually don't tip. I work in commerce dealing with guests and I guess my job and the salary of the employees are included in the price. tips sound like alms for me..
