Photographer's Note

It might be a little difficult to work out what is going on here. The church of St George, in the middle ground, arises from the rock from which it is carved.

It is one of eleven such churches around the town of Lalibela, and by far the most photographed.

It was "constructed" in the late 11th century when the King of Ethiopia, sought to recreate Jerusalem, and structured the churches' landscape and religious sites in such a way as to achieve such a feat.

Not sure that the churches are much like Jerusalem, but they are nonetheless impressive.
