Photographer's Note
day off in Belo after an unfruitful attempt to leave towards Morombe in the dugout.
we tried to leave earlier in the morning, but we were obliged to make half turn, the storms were too strong, and the waves too (thanks to the waterproof bags for my cameras).
finally an unexpected cool mode day, just a trek about 20 km to a baobab forest :) ... and more time to take some pictures in Belo ... just a marvelous place for me ...

Hello Arnaud.
Fantastic mood here. THe idea to shoot through the open gate is a nice portal to the otherside of your scene...an introduction to a serene life beyond...'least that is the feeling I get. I really like the exposure of the young man as well...a silhouette standing against those rich greys.
Great shot again.

I like this - the open doorway makes a great framing device and waiting for the boy to run past playing with his hoop has rewarded you with a simple but evocative image.
If you had waited a split second until there was a bit of separation between the door and the boy's trailing foot it would have been even better.
Sharpness is a little off, but it doesn't matter too much, if anything the slight softness enhances the mood.
Good to see another Tri-X user in these days of digital!
Cheers,
Ben

It's a very lovely scene. When I was little, I always wished I had a hoop to roll like this boy here ( I think that's whats happening). So one day I had the brilliant idea of using an old snow tire I found for that purpose. If you don't know, snow tires have studs or little metal spikes on them to help grip the road in icy weather. I was so happy rolling it along until I bumped into it and gashed the front of my leg open. I still have the scar. Wow I was a little a nerd. But anyway, I really like this photo.

salut arnaud,
clever photo...i like (obviously) the way you framed this image - through the door, awaited the boy appearing in the frame, and "isolating" him from the rest of the world...
good work on b/w
best wishes, j.

Hi Arnaud,
i like how you "framed" the view, it's like an invitation on the beach. I won't hesitate :)

Excellent moment snapped up with style. Carefree childhood in an idyllic corner of the world. Naturally framed through the doorway, excellent control over tonality.
I am glad you had waterproof bags.
Looks like you are having fun!
