Camping at Meroe. Meroë (Meroitic: Medewi or Bedewi; Arabic: مرواه Meruwah) is the name of an ancient city on the east bank of the Nile about 6 km north-east of the Kabushiya station near Shendi, Sudan, approximately 200 km north-east of Khartoum. Near the site are a group of villages called Bagrawiyah. This city was the capital of the Kingdom of Kush for several centuries. The Kushitic Kingdom of Meroë gave its name to the Island of Meroë, which was the modern region of Butana, a region bounded by the Nile (from the Atbarah River to Khartoum), the Atbarah, Ethiopia, and the Blue Nile.
The city of Meroë was on the edge of Butana and there were two other Meroitic cities in Butana, Musawwarat es-Sufra, and Naqa.[1][2]
The site of the city of Meroë is marked by more than two hundred pyramids in three groups, of which many are in ruins. They are identified as Nubian pyramids because of their distinctive size and proportions.

Hi Benjamin,
It looks like a scene from an old story lost in time. I love the vastness and the old ruins popping up from the desert. It looks like an amazing and photogenic place. I like the various small details throughout such as lone tree in the middle of nowhere.

Hello,
You succeed to share a real atmosphere in this photo thanks to all the dust put in the air and providing unusual colors in the sky.
Is it your choice to keep a visible vignetting effect on the corners?
Yves.

Hi Benjamin
Une vue intéressante de ces ruines dans ce paysage immense du désert, le petit groupe de personnes avec leurs chameaux, les détails du désert, une note intéressante et une belle image
Belle journée

Hello Benjamin - What a great expanse of desert. Wonderful colour and fascinating detail with the unusaul buildings, camel train and sparse vegetation. Exotic! best regards Rosemary

hello Ben ,
What a fantastic scene ! The strange color of the sky enhances the beauty of the atmosphere . The composition is outstanding , too . The only minor default is the feeling of tilt of the horizon line , but it was difficult to do differently .

Hi Benjamin
This one has to be opened to take all its value
I like this desertic landscape, a few buildings, these nubian pyramids and the eye catching white spots of the camels
I have the impression that we see a line of electric posts in the BG but I'm not sure
Have a nice WE
Best

Hi Ben
Sudan isn't exactly a country thats often traveled, or at least often traveled by us Canadians :)
just curious....what was your plan here? was it a business related trip? or purely a tourist vacation spot you wanted to visit :)
and what was your overall experience like, was it 100% safe? or did you not venture into the dark city areas?
I know very little about Sudan, sorry for my ignorance.
As for the photo, having the camels and riders in the fg really make the scene, and give it some life.
the architecture in the desert is something rarely ever seen! very cool indeed!!
Not sure if the vignetting was deliberate at the corners of the frame, but I certainly enjoy the photo overall.
cheers
craig
I just read your profile....i see that you and your family are now LIVING in Sudan :) that answers my question!
