Photographer's Note

Unfortunately forgot where I took this one. There are quite a few churches in Bucharest, despite the old regime's systematic policy of eradicating or neglecting them. Faith is having a revival in Romania, to a large degree associated with the helplessness many feel in these uncertain times.

Learned from the old dutch painters? The best school a photographer can go through. One light source,reflecting on a person´s face. No movement, muted colours, some mystery and lots of space for thoughts and interpretation. Kind of human still life. Excellently realized here. M

ciao christian,
this shot reminds me of a photo Agnieszka published a few months ago, mainly the subject (a man reading some holy scripts) and the directional light.
I like very much this use of the light, its indirect reflection is enough to illuminate the priest but at the same time it leaves most of the image in the dark, recreating the atmosphere of a church.
religion or not, I wish you a good holiday break and a good start of 2011 :)
