TETRAPILON, uno dei gioielli di Afrodisia
Questa porta monumentale situata subito ad est del tempio di Afrodisia č datata verso il II° sec, d.C. Poiché č attorniata da quattro colonne, le fu attribuito questo nome. E' difficile dire quale fosse la sua vera funzione. Non č opposta all'ingresso del tempio, perň possiamo rilevare che i cortei si avviavano al tempio dopo essersi radunati accanto ad essa. Nell'opera si scorge una molteplicitŕ di stili architettonici con colonne lisce, affusolate, o scanalate alcune costruite con marmi azzurri. Sull'architrave ad ovest sono rappresentate scene di caccia che raffigurano dei cavalli e le figure di Eros e Nike che emergono da foglie di acanto. L'architrave ad est č a forma di arco semicircolare di marmo. Il restauro del Tetrapilone č il piů importante realizzato fino ad ora in Anatolia con l' 80 % delle parti originali ritrovate durante gli scavi e rimesse nella loro posizione in modo da poter dare un'idea d'insieme dell'opera.

A Tetrapylon (Greek: Τετράπυλον, "four gates") is an ancient type of Roman monument of cubic shape, with a gate on each of the four sides: generally it was built on a crossroads.
Approaching the Temple of Aphrodite along the path leading from the Aphrodisias Museum, one comes first to the Tetrapylon, a colossal gate consisting of four rows of fluted Corinthian columns. Its elaborately carved roof depicts Eros, the god of love and the son of Aphrodite, frolicking with Nike, the goddess of victory. Originally part of a wall that formed an entrance to the temple, the Tetrapylon provides a ceremonial approach for the contemporary visitor.

L'image est belle sans aucun doute ! l'on dirait presque un décor réalisé pour un opéra !
Magnifique mise en image. L'architecture impose le respect. Félicitations pour avoir su donner ŕ cette image une page d'histoire et de poésie.

bellissima e poetica composizione, coi papaveri in primo piano ad "aprire" la scena, poi il tempio e, in fondo, un altro tempo e le montagne. La foto si sviluppa su piů piani, i colori sono naturali: sembra di stare lě! Grazie per le sensazioni!

This is a nicely composed shot with the off center placement of the ruins and the inclusion of the flowers in the foreground. The lighting and colors are great with excellent sharpness and detail. The blue sky is great and provides a nice backdrop for the scene.

Another winner from Turkey. This is very sweet -- super composition, light, clarity and natural colors. Your off-center placement of the gate, beautifully balanced by the flowers and framed by the clouds, gives it a rather forlorn feeling and stimulates the imagination. Thanks also for the useful note. An impressive photo of an impressive place! Our friend Mesut Ilgim ("mesutilgim") here on TE has posted many photos from Aphrodisia and he is involved in the works there. Including these plants in foreground creates a very nice effect and helps to produce depth here. You have had a wonderful light too. I like this one very much!

Bellissima immagine. E non soltanto perché ritrae un luogo archeologico splendido contro un cielo perfetto. Mi piacciono certe sue sottigliezze. I papaveri vanitosi che si ergono per farsi ammirare.Avendo a fianco certe erbe lunghe e magre che possono far mostra solo di certi semi sottili e in qualche modo rinsecchiti. Il tempio era dedicato ad Afrodite, Venere, no? La dea della Bellezza. E allora mi viene in mente una frase (del tutto fuori luogo eppure appropriatissima) che ripeteva la mia bisnonna. Io ero allora una fanciulla in boccio. Avrň avuto forse 15 anni. E lei:"Anna Paola? Adesso sei bellissima, ma non dimenticarlo mai: ogni bel fior diventa fieno. E' la testa che conta!".
E come aveva ragione...
