Photographer's Note
‘Villers-la-Ville - Abbey church of Villers Abbey - 3’
These pictures were taken in the same room as my two previous ones: in the church ruins of the abbey.
In my main picture you will find some elements of my previous one.
This time I had two people acting unconsciously for my photo.
Information from https://villers.be/fr/vlog/eglise-abbaye-villers about the abbey church :
The first stones of the church were laid in 1197 on the initiative of Abbot Charles de Seyn.
First in Romanesque style, then Gothic.
The construction of the church lasted 86 years.
The dimensions were commensurate with the religious faith of the Cistercian monks: 94 m long, 42 m wide and 23 m high. Equipped with oculi, also called ‘windows of the soul’, and 8 side chapels, the building testified to the power and aura of the abbey.
Dramatic but in 1794 during the French Revolution when the monks were chased away, the church was sold to a material merchant who dismantled it piece by piece.

Hello Paul,
Isn't it amazing what a person, or two, can do to make a photo more captivating? Today's three photos all show very impressive and beautiful architecture, but these two persons make the main picture so much more interesting. They somehow bring the entire view closer to us. Or at least to me. Having said that, I should underscore that both WS are very well taken and show attractive parts of the abbey.
Best regards,
Gert

Bonjour Paul,

Hello Paul, as I have probably said before, this Abbey has some beautiful features still standing, a credit to the builders.
In this shot, the sunlight coming through the round windows has produced those lovely circles of light on the ground.
The couple are nicely included.
Three lovely pictures.
Kind regards, Jean

Hallo Paul,
Die twee mensen daar laten mooi zien hoe groot de gewelven van die oude abdij zijn. Die mooie ronde ramen laten niet alleen de blauwe lucht zien, maar een aantal andere lieten ook mooi verlichte cirkels op de grond vallen.

Hi Paul
ya, this is most certainly a beast isn't it? what a piece of architecture this is...imagine walking through it when it was pristine and new...wow. Its so cool to have it as an open air museum sort of speak. I wonder how it looks and feels at midnight here, haunting perhaps? wonderful trio of shots. Wish I was here. cheers

Incrivel o tamanho e a imponencia destas construções .

Hi Paul,
Great series of three photos again. All of them are amazing each so different. The circles are a surprising motif in the main upload. I like that we can also spot them in the shadow on the ground.
The couple adds a romantic touch, some life and makes it so nice that you could use it as an advert for this place.
I feel intimidated now. I thought I am a ruins expert ha ha and it seems that one ruins in Belgium provide you with more photo opportunities than my whole North East England collection.
Excellent work,
M

Hello Paul
A pity this mediaeval cathedral was partly dismantled. It still looks magnificent even in partial ruin. Good sharpness and the stained glass windows must have been impressive. The 2 persons add scale. Tfs!

Hello Paul
Another beautiful view of this monastery. Good sharpness and lighting. Good combination with two visitors. The shadows provide good depth. The workshop view shows well. Beautiful shot

Hello Paul,
I assume the form of its demise accounts for how solid it looks. I think it should be reconsecrated as an open-air church.

Hello Paul.
Impressive the ruins of this abbey, in this composition the presence of this couple, allows us to astonish this pharaonic work, gigantic window with those curious circles in its upper part.
Sharpness, lighting and color very well managed.
Well done. I like it.
Have a good weekend.
Luis.

paul
a fabulous view of the interior, the personages added life and scale. we can see the many different stones used here. I am curious to know what the owner sold from these buildings, most of them are present and the stones looks so fragile to be stolen and reused.
take care

Hello Paul,
There are those round windows again. :-) I looked at your previous photo, too, and they are both nice, but this one has those cool shadows on the ground. I like how the couple is almost standing completely inside one of the circles of light.
