Photographer's Note

No kid's picture today. This is to satisfy the curiosity of some people about my newly purchased Nikon D70. Here's my first few shots (just yesterday) using this camera. (This is retouched: those who are interested to see the un-retouched version, please see the workshop.)

Thailand is a land of many expats. Some were sent to work here, while others are backpackers who end up finding a job here because of the lure of the place and the people. As a result, there is quite a lot of inter-marriages between Westerners and Thais. And the results are mixed-blood children. In Thailand, they call them Luk-kroong (maybe Din can help me with this).

In the international school where I am teaching, we have a lot of them. They are very good looking . They usually end up in the entertainment business (print ad model, actresses, singers,etc.). This girl is no exception.

As I am desperate to test my new camera, I asked this student to pose for me. She obliged. I asked her permission to post her picture in TE, she was delighted. As this is in the school, I only have the plain wall as a background. The result is this. I am pretty satisfied with my Nikon D70. What do you think?

(With Photoshop Cs. I used highlight/shadowing under adjustments. I slid the contrast to the negative side. This is how the softness was achieved. I also select the eyes and use shadow/higlight again. It made the eyes sharper and lighter. It is a wonderful tool to use.)
