Photographer's Note

It’s been an extremely long and cold winter; I am eager for warm weather and I long to see sailing boats in the harbor and to watch the woods turn green once more.
In 1791, the last year of his life, Mozart wrote a song “Sehnsucht nach dem Fruehling” ("Longing for Spring"). Two hundred years later, "Longing for Spring" is still a favourite among German-speaking people and it is also very popular in Denmark. On the first of May you can enjoy the charming naiveté and easy flow of its melody all day long on the Radio in Denmark. The song brings on the magic of spring with a certain feeling of yearning:

If only it got warmer and the grass began to grow!
Do come, dear May, we children do beg you earnestly!
Do come and, above all, bring lots of violets
and also nightingales and pretty cuckoo birds!

My impression of spring was taken in Hoeruphav harbour in the Danish German border region on a sunny day, the fog had just cleared. The harbour is beautifully surrounded by woods where you can listen to the birds and smell the sweet scent of the violets.
I wish you all a Merry Month of May and a successful Labour Day!
