Photographer's Note

View of alsatian architecture in Ribeauville, taken in the early morning while looking for a cafe. It was raining and I took refuge under a balcony of a building, suddenly the sun came out and I rushed to get the camera out before the sun disappered again. It did, but not before I got a shot. I hear the weather has been much nicer this october. Ribeauville is one of the many wine making villages between Strasbourg and Colmar.
Lots of PP done here, cropped, chopped, cooked, sharpened, simmered, diced, darkened sky sloppily, contrasted, baked and finally erased a bunch of TV antennas. I will post the original to WS. I'm sure someone will tell me to take this crap to TL.

wow, amazing result, the original photo doesn't seem very interesting but the result of your improvement is superb! I love the POV, the colours and the scenery itself, great architecture, so old and distinctive, really good work :) i love it!

The sunlight shows up well on the warm colours of the brickwork,in addition the buildings stand out really well against that brooding sky.I do think that the cropping could have been tweaked a bit to get rid of a couple of messy areas and I have done a Workshop to show what I mean.
And its definateley not Crap.

thats pretty dominant and makes a statement..
the lighting makes the sky seem darker and the detial is phenomenal on those buildings...
whats this about pixels...is it a new camera..:)

Well, this is not a crappy picture at all, Tan! Yeah, maybe reality could be nicer as your version, but I am sure fifty years ago the photo would have come similar to the post processed!
:)
In any case, good dramatic pictue with the color, clouds and one clock tower!

Hi Tan,
This remember a try and capture that I did today at 2005-11-25 when a storming and sudden raining drops keep falling my head shut down. My camera is cold and waiting for better times ;-)))

What I said is a comment and this is post is a complementar feeling of the weather and nature mood. Excelent capture and allways your insight, view and experience. Fantastic management of light, splendid enquadrement, first class scanner or digital. The lesson from me is to view and improve that is also really good for others.

Hey, you took the photo under adverse conditions, otherwise I'm sure it have been composed and looked exactly like this. :-)
BTW: Are we not allowed to remove antennas and other "garbage."

Hi Tan. Well not quite as saturated a shot we've come to expect from you but the warm light makes up for it. I like how you went with framing that shows textures and details as opposed to a wide area. Another nice shot Tan!

I like the stark contrast between the fg buildings bathed in a warm, yellow, afternoon light, & the navy blue bg clouds. Good contrast, color, & sharpness. Well done!

Of course I know very well this place this tower is the entrance to the upper part of the town, amazing how you improved and warmed that one to get a spectacular light effect and a dramatic opposition towards the clouds, I wish you could have a somewhat wider angle to display the bakery in the house on the right, hopefully without cars, a recurring problem on this view. Thanks Tan for the suprise and the spectacle :-))

The only thing that troubles me and not very much, is the halo around the buildings from the sharpening - but this is for me a really acceptable work in pp - we dodge and burn images by hand - OK removing TV ariels is not so easy maybe but use the digital tools to present it how you want. I very much like the way you've shown us this archtiecture! Great stuff.

Your post processing on this was terrific. It turned an "OK" photo into something much more. The sky now looks much more ominous but not over done. Very nice work!!!

I really like the PP work that you've done on this shot and I don't think it's too much. The light on the clock tower and the building is beautiful and contrasts against the dark clouds in the sky. Nice shot to show us the typical alsatian architecture.

Excellent workshop explanation which is really instructive as to how you achieve such stunning results. I must admit that generally I find your colours a bit oversaturated but here the bold colours are just right for the scene, and your WS treatment is not at all overcooked. The sunlit tower is especially impressive against the watery, dark sky. Is there nowhere you haven't visited with camera??! ;-)

Incredible colours and lighting in this shot. What rich hues and tones to display the fine architecture. The scene resembles a story book scene. The dramatic sky heightens the contrast and there is a good play of light and shadow on the buildings. A superb capture.

Usually I do not like to do too much of PP on my photos but I can see how well you have managed to dramatize this scene that looked so mundane in its original version.

Your photo drew me in and your accompanying note gave me a chuckle. I like the dark mood of the photo, which stays even with the sunlight on the buildings. I looked at your original - exactly as others have said before me; an ordinary photo to something spectacular!

PS: why would some tell you to take this to TL? What is the difference?
