Million Dollar Smile, a photo from Yerevan, West

Photographer's Note

Last year Yerevan was celebrating its 2796th anniversary. It is one of the world's oldest cities and has been the capital of Armenia since 1918. The history of Yerevan starts from the 8th century BC, with the founding of the fortress of Erebuni by Urartian King Algishti. At those times in history it was predominantly named Erebuni, that's why usually we call it Erebuni-Yerevan.

During celebration people entertained for a week at various festivals, watching the folk dancing groups and trying local food.

I was looking through your gallery, and I found this lovely portrait. I like the zoom and tight framing. Photos with a bit of ethnic flavor are always nice, and here we have the colorful headdress and beads hanging down. This woman was obviously happy to be your subject. :-)
