Area of Katoghike Church with residential buildings in background.
Old and new buildings :)
In 1936, the basilica of the Holy Mother of God was demolished under the Soviet rule to make way for residential buildings and a linguistic institute at the Sayat-Nova Avenue. During the demolition, the 13th-century chapel of Katoghike was discovered encased within the structure of the large basilica. After protests from archaeologists, the chapel was preserved. Many old khachkars (cross-stones) were found in the walls of the demolished church dating back to the 15th and 17th centuries.

what can I say? its a very cool shot and scene with the contrasting styles of architecture.
and i like the fg/bg separation, that works well too.

love how the appartment buildings looks so dated and old, the lighting is A++

I can recognise the distinctive alternating tonal variations in the blocks of dark and light toned stones. I've seen the same patterns in eastern Turkey. Good sharpness and the bg provides contrast. Tfs!

Witaj Piotrze,

Swietna kompozycja, ale kontrast między tym budynkiem na pierwszym planie i koszmarnym blokowiskiem z tylu. To porównanie robi wrażenie, tyle, ze nowe jest właśnie z przodu. Czytając Twoja notkę można by sądzić, że na zdjęciu jest Kathoghike. A tak nie jest. Ta stara kapliczka z XIII wieku to urocze maleństwo, którego tu nie ma.
Super kadr i kolory.

Great photo with a fantastic contrast between the two styles of architecture. The church seems to be taken care of much better than the block of flats. The light was very pleasant here too.

The beautiful church makes a stark contrast with the regimented lines and uncared for look of the background building. Superb rendering of the warm colours and detail in the sandstone blocks.

Hello Piotr,
A very elegant composition with an almost absurd contrast between the old church and the horrible Soviet style residential buildings. There is an excellent balance between the two areas and you cropped this photo perfectly. It's not a beautiful photo in the ordinary sense of the word, but it is well taken and tells us something about life in the former Soviet Union.
