Photographer's Note
Situated at the junction of the Mo Chhu (Mother river) and Pho Chhu (Father River), Punaka Dzong(fort) also called Pungthang Dechen Phhodrang or the Palace of Great Happiness was constructed in 1637 and served to protect against Tibetian invasion. In more recent years it served as the seat of the Bhutanese government until Thimphu became the capital in the mid-1950's. Today it is the administrative and religious center for the region.
