Pingyao International Photography Festival, Shanxi Province, China

The Pingyao's dynastic architecture, ancient city wall (2,700-year-old-town) and intimate, small town feel is a fabulous setting for the International Photography Festival, which was held this September for the 5th time, with increasing success.

This year, more than 20,000 professional and amateur photographers, journalists and patrons from all corners of the globe gathered into this remote province of Northern China, to showcase more than 10,000 photos shot by 1,600 photographers.

In this abandoned factory where pictures of XXth century-history of the Chinese city of Chungqing were displayed, I met these two Pingyao'born brothers, visiting the exhibit with their mother and grand-mother. Three generations of a Chinese family, literally mesmerized by what they were seeing on the walls for the first time of their life: the history of their country, in very straightforward journalistic pictures.

With huge pride, and a bit of shyness too, they enjoyed to pose 'within' the exhibition's walls. As if stepping into the future history of China, themselves.
