Photographer's Note

Here's my contribution to the growing gallery of Forbidden city-pictures here at TE. I was quite fascinated by the little figurines on the roof ridges, didn't have a zoomlens at that time so this was the best I could get. This was one of the few days of my stay in China when there was clear weather, we had almost no rain but always a light haze - smog I guess.

The picture is rather noisy. I don't want to do automatic noise-removal because that would take away all the details on the roofs. After sharpening noise increased even more so I had to compress the file a little more than I would like to. I had a lot more of the rightmost roof on the original but I think this tighter crop concentrates better on the ornamentation. Editing also included contrast enhancement and tone-curve manipulating.

I like it much, Simon. The saturation of colors and these small details are wonderful. I do not know exactly what you call "automatic noise-removal", but I tried it with neat image and in my opinion details are preserved. Have a look to my WS, I hope you will be happy with it.

De bons détails , une belle textures des nuages ( Dommage pour ce surplus de bruit ).Le contraste est beau. J'aime bien le fait d'avoir gardé uniquement les toits on a une impression de regarder vraiment en l'air .

Beautiful composition. The ornaments on the roof makes the pic something special. I like the contrast of the colours between the sky and the roof.

Excellent photo. The figurines look great against the sky. Good angle. The sunlight has lit up the colours in the roofs beautifully. Congratulations on getting a perfect sky in Beijing.
