Photographer's Note

Here are three lotus flowers and a bud. This shot was taken from the lotus pond in the HK Public Garden in Central. I have two desaturated versions of this wherein the flower colors are deeply accentuated against a dulled-out background. Pretty eery effect. You can view those two versions in my DPC HK portfolio .

PS: Kikin, yes that raft-looking structure at the back is another plant. Each disk is one huge leaf, if I'm not mistaken. I don't know the scientific name, but wouldn't be surprised if it's the Amazonica giant you mentioned.

Truly a wonderful shot. I just wish the DOF was a bit smaller and focus more on the lotus flowers instead. But I like your choice as well, works on a different level. The colors are magnificent and your composition is perfect. Very well done!

Beautiful subject and color. Would it be better if upper/backgroud part is cropped a little bit? Just wondering, is in the backround another kind of lotus? It looks like huge leaves of Victoria amazonica (Giant amazon lily).

The colors of the lotus flowers are gorgeous! The texture of all leaves around, contrasting with the dark shades of the water makes this shot magnificent!

Very good framing here. Colors are well saturated, the sharpness in the foreground id perfect. The main subjects are just ex-centered, this enhances the composition. Perhaps would I have prefered to see these lotus flowers more opened but... it's just a detail! Very nice.

This is a wonderful shot of flowers, the colors are amazing with the light on the flowers. Almost looks three dimension. I might have cropped the upper part, removing the green blurred section of the giant plant which attracts my attention too much. Well done.

Wonderful flowers, and the sharpness is spot on. I like the way they show different stages of development, one more unfolded than the next. I think I, too, would have cropped a little from the top.

Colours are magnificent, the excellent centring, I like the light which is distributed in the image.

Your sister lilies are very perky and happy with excellent colour. Kind of makes you want to relax and stay a while to soak in the environment. The contrast with the green leaves and the reflection make this a truly elegant shot.

Seeing the lotus in their natural setting makes this shot. I think Cathy's term 'elegant' sums this up perfectly.
