A daily life scene from Xining

Two women meet in the street and catch up on the latest gossip and stories. In the background hangs a mop, the daily house cleaning is done.

XINING is the largest city on the Tibetan Plateau and the capital of Qinghai province. It has some 2.5 million inhabitants, mainly Han, Hui and Tibetan.

The city was a commercial hub along the Northern Silk Road's Hexi Corridor for over 2000 years, and was a stronghold of the Han, Sui, Tang, and Song dynasties' resistance against nomadic attacks from the west.

The capital of Qinghai province has a few impressive religious sites (Muslim and Buddhist), but most tourists regard Xining as a transport hub on their way to Gansu, Tibet or Xinjiang.

Hello Benny,
I have rather fond memories of Xining in 1986. It was a lively city with lots of opportunities for street photography, just like this. There is a good connection between the two ladies and there is a nice background, not least the mop. I bet you will find this added to the theme called "Small talk" by tomorrow morning. ;-)

Hello Benny,

This meeting of two ladies could have been photographed and often, as your title suggests, consists of general gossip about the neighbourhood!
Your photograph is well composed and benefits from the plain, red wall, behind the ladies, as it creates a useful backcloth.
I was interested to see the mop hanging on the wall. Is such a tool regularly necessary?

Ik ben geen expert in vrouwen herkennen, maar ik denk dat de persoon gezien op de rug, een man zou kunnen zijn.
Maar dergelijk confrontaties zijn altijd mooi om in beeld te brengen.
Zeker wanneer hier de vrouw de leiding neemt, met de voet vooruit.

I like the effect achieved, it's an attractive street shot of these two ladies having a quiet chat with a story for sure and I like the body lingo. This has a gentle relaxed feel and it's a fleeting moment that make the shot for me. Excellent candid, info write up and colour rendition.

Charming scene mainly thanks to nice poses of the people who as you pointed out are deep in a conversation, whether these are two ladies or a man and woman I wouldn't be able to tell.

Hallo Benny,
In Xining was ik nooit. De meest dichtbije plaatsen die ik bezocht heb, waren Xiahe en Lanzhou. Ik meen me te herinneren dat Xining de startplaats was van de lange reis overland naar Lhasa maar ook daar ben ik nooit geraakt.
Mijn eerste idee bij het zien van deze foto was dat beide dames vrij modern gekleed zijn. De foto werd evenwel in 2015 genomen terwijl ik in Xiahe in 1999 was en China is een land dat razendsnel veranderde.
De okerkleurige muur vormt een mooie achtergrond.
De bezem hangt er misschien voor wie zich geroepen voelt om het voetpad schoon te vegen ...

Great daily life photo two ladies have a short chat. The red wall of the building is good BG as well as hanging vertically a mop.
