Photographer's Note
Also taken during the 2005 cross Taklamakan-Kuruktag expedition, in the hinterland of Taklamakan, the projected shadow of clouds and the dunes on the great desert that stretching to the horizon leave in my mind for so long...the impression is so powerful that I can still smell the sandy blowing wind......the appearance of life (our team) made the composition even better (well from my point of view, at least)...
A bit more about the Taklamkan:
Its name has the meaning of "the sea of death" and/or "He who goes in never comes out"...however, quite a few expedition, surveying, geological and archaeological projects had been done in these area (and there are alot going on! especially in the lopnur lake region). The ancient silk road also went across it and left us lots of puzzles to solve. There are lots of ancient civilization sites located in the desert, which are invaluable treasure of our great earth, check out my photo for one of these...

Nice photo, the people in this bring the dessert in to perspective and makes the dunes look like they stretch out to the end of the world so to speak. Very nice photo, thank you for sharing.

Great composition. It was a good idea to exclude the sky and the figures give scale to this vast landscape.
I seem to remember that Taklamakan means "He who goes in doesn't come out." Is that right?

Such great scenery, just love the effect of those sand dunes, and the size of the people compared to the rest of the landscape.

Fan, I simply love desert and always wanted to visit Taklamakan. Your photo is great reminder of this fantastic place with great compostion. It was very good idea to include those people in your photo to give much better feeling for scale and size. Well seen and captured. L.

amazing photo but it seems to be a fotomontage as I can hardly imagine you staying that far away from your group only to take a picture... ?
